Coconut Grove Security Meeting Summary

Mayor Tomás Regalado and Comissioner Mark Sarnoff were present to discuss what the City of Miami is doing for Grove residents. The key items discussed are listed below:

  • There is a capital projects road improvement ready to roll out. Potholes, tree root incursions, drainage problems, and holes from garbage pickup will be repaired along Poincianna and in the Loquat/Avocado areas of Center Grove. This effort was started by residents in these neighborhoods. Utopia was not represented. We need to send Mark Sarnoff photos of places needing repair and drainage as soon as possible to be considered. There is limited capital improvement funds available.
  • Mark Sarnoff said residents who had holes created by Miami garbage pickup services should contact his office and he would get them fixed in two (2) days.
  • Poinciana is planned for repaving from Main Hwy to Le Jeunne. We need to ask for traffic calming measures with the repaving.
  • Miami Police will be more active with traffic laws, esp speeding, in the cut through streets per resident requests.
  • Miami Police will provide residents with a safety walkthrough inspection of their homes upon request.
  • Coconut Grove Playhouse remains entangled in a web of problems and progress is stalled by the current board.
  • CVS store is a dangerous place after dark. Residents are asking CVS to hire security in their parking lot.
  • The (2008) crime wave in Coconut Grove continues to be reversed with active patrols.
  • Officers are actively stopping pedestrians and getting to know them. Night bikers w/o lights will be questioned.

Kitten Found In Coconut Grove

Kitten found in South Coconut Grove Miami FL
Our neighbors Alan and Ellen Penchansky have found the adorable kitten seen in the picture at left. She is very tame and comfortable with people so someone must be missing her. She is healthy, clean and socialized so she is not a feral cat. She is a beautiful gray, short-hair with copper eyes. She is only about 8-10 weeks old. If you or someone you know is looking for her, please contact: Ellen or Alan.

Lost Dog: Please Help Find Zoey

We have another neighbor that needs our help! Suzy Robinson and her family are missing their beloved dog Zoey. She got loose during the storms on Sunday and is very skittish so she is probably very scared! Zoey was last seen in the Utopia subdivision of Coconut Grove, Miami, Florida. She is a white and brown Rat Terrier that weighs about 15 lbs and is 7 yrs old. She has a locator chip that can be scanned at a vet’s office. We need your help to reunite Zoey with her family! If you or anyone you know has seen Zoey, please contact Suzy at (305) 588-3322 or by email.

Please Help Find Hazel (our Tortoise)

My daughter’s tortoise, Hazel, escaped from our back yard yesterday and I’d like to ask our neighbors to keep a look out for her as I assume she can’t have gone very far yet.

We have watched Hazel grow from 1″ in diameter to over 6 inches in 3 years and my daughter Ella is very fond of her. She is a docile, sweet animal. If anyone finds her, I would greatly appreciate them returning her to us or calling me to inform me of her location. We are offering a $50 reward.

Thank you,
Melinda Gonzalez
