Can You Help Save the Fallen Tree in Our Park?

FORWARDING A MESSAGE FROM MARIELOS BALTODANO

Dear Neighbors,
I have contacted an arborist who took a look at the fallen tree on the little park at La Playa Blvd and Ventura Ave…. He said it can be saved!!!

Generally the charge to do such an elaborate work it would be $ 2,750 but he said, for this particular case, he could do it for $ 1,950.

Please contact me at 786.777.8064 if you wish to donate towards the efforts to stand it right up.

It only takes $20.00 if 100 of us chips in…. $10.00 if 200… and so on. I will collect the money and keep a list and obviously, present all invoices necessary…. please help me stand this tree up….

UPDATED (9/27)

14 people in total have offered to contribute so far…

-7 of the 14 have offered a specific amount (for a total of $ 540….)

Help Stop Zika – Call 311

bromeliadIf you would like to help stop the spread of Zika, a mosquito transmitted virus that causes birth defects, make a quick call to 311 and ask for the free mosquito spraying for your yard.

It’s quick and easy. As of Friday mosquito control was the first option on the 311 menu. You’ll be transferred to a call center where they will take your name, phone and address and give you a confirmation number. Within about a week, mosquito control experts will contact you for an inspection of your property to help you locate standing water that can breed mosquitoes. If they find a mosquito problem, they will spray and attempt to empty any standing water that may be harboring the nasty little creatures.

It’s important to realize the disease carrying mosquitoes need only a small amount of standing water to breed. Items as unobtrusive as potted plants, and especially bromeliads hold small amounts of water which provide a natural breeding ground for these dangerous varieties of mosquito. A couple things you can try yourself to control the dangerous mosquitoes:

  • Drain standing water and cover the containers
  • Use mosquito larva bait (mosquito dunks) in places that constantly refill like bromeliads, bird baths, and potted plants (environmentally safe)
  • Call 311 and schedule a yard inspection and mosquito spraying

If enough people call from our neighborhood, the city may use spray trucks to cover the whole neighborhood. Be part of the solution. Stop Zika in its tracks!

Mosquito larva bait

These products kill mosquito larva before they hatch into flying mosquitoes and do so safely. The Mosquito dunks introduce a bacteria to the water that is fatal only to mosquito larva. Its quick, environmentally safe, and organic. More about how this works in the video below:
