Dear Crime watchers and residents,
On Wednesday, August, 12, 2015 our Grove Problem Solving Team in conjunction with the Miami Police SWAT served a narcotics search warrant in the 3800 block of Washington Ave as part of our Gun Violence Reduction strategy.
The search warrant was obtained after an investigation aimed at the target location, which had been the source of several shooting incidents in the Village West and was disturbingly close to several child care and education centers. No parties were injured and the search warrant led to the arrest of Mr. Rodney Mays and another male at the location. The operation netted the recovery of a firearm and a seller’s amount of crack cocaine. We have our investigative units following up to verify if the weapon is connected to our recent Grove shootings.
Mr. Mays has a lengthy criminal history and was charged with several counts of sale of cocaine and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. We will be working with our partners at the state attorney’s office to secure an enhanced prosecution of the offenders.
We will continue to target with proactive enforcement our nuisance locations that threaten the safety and peace of mind of our residents.
