Abusive salesman:

Abusive and aggressive magazine salesmen are once again plaguing our Coconut Grove community. Do not engage with these abusive magazine salesmen. Read below information from a North Grove neighbor.

Several neighbors reported a young black male, white shirt, khaki shorts, aprox 5’10”, overweight by about 50lbs, selling magazines, dooor to door. He is not polite and considered verbally abusive. One neighbor was so insulted she slammed the door in his face. As I declined his sale he remarked that I wasn’t buying from him because I was older than he and not willing to help out a young guy. He said he had been working the neighborhood for several days, He goes by the name of Michael. As I wished him well and was closing the door he mocked me. Later when I came outside and walked to my car he shouted “be safe, ……..” and called me by my first name . He obviously has been doing his homework on the Google with our addresses.

Please call the police immediately if you see him or anyone fitting this description.

Do not answer the door, speak to him through a window if you want this person to know someone is home.

If you spot these salesmen, please contact the police immediately at 305-579-6111.

New threat to vehicle security

Our neighborhood continues to be challenged by theft of contents to cars. This report by CNN features a new threat that could be heading to Miami but as of now has not been identified as a tool for vehicle burglary in Miami. Commander Morales communicated the following to our board in reference to the devices mentioned in this CNN report:

I have read of the attached device, but have yet to confirm its use by one of our offenders.

Our officers are aware that the technology exist, but can be difficult to identify because the exterior housing of the device can vary.

I fear the vast majority of our car break-ins involve vehicles that were left unlocked by the owners.

Please remember that car burglary is a common crime and can many times be prevented by locking your car and removing valuables.

Narcotics Arrests in West Village

FROM: Cmdr. Manuel Morales, Miami Police Department

In response to several recent incidents in the Village West, we have increased our narcotics enforcement efforts in the area.

On Wednesday, November 27th at 2PM our Narcotics Units along with our SWAT Team executed two search warrants of homes suspected of selling drugs.

The warrants were served in the 3400 block of Day Ave and the 3500 block of Plaza St.

The operation not only led to the successful apprehension of two criminals wanted for the sale of narcotics, but more importantly it removed a firearm and illegal drugs from our streets.

Today’s operation serves as an example that the Miami Police and the residents of the Grove will not tolerate crime and will not allow those who affect our quality of life to seek refuge behind close doors. We will continue to combat crime to make Coconut Grove a safer place to live and play.
